"It smells bad here," Josh said unhappily. The three kids were in a cupboard (壁橱)waiting for the ghost to appear.
It was midnight. Rose stood still and listened.
"Shh! I think I heard something," she said.
Dink slowly opened the door and looked out. A white ghost walked past the door.
"Help," cried Josh, "Let's go back!"
The ghost's hair was white and spiky (有尖刺的). And there were just black, empty holes where the eyes should have been! Then, the ghost disappeared.
"Come on," said Rose, "let's follow it!"
But the ghost had gone. Then they saw something: a long white hair on the ground.
Dink picked it up. "The ghost had white hair like this," he said.
"Yes," said Rose, "but ghosts don't lose hair, people do!"
The next day, the kids talked about what to do.
"I think the hair is from a wig (假发)," said Rose, "the hair proves the ghost is really a person!"
But who would act as a ghost? The only people they could think of were the two guests left at the hotel, Mr and Mrs Jeffers.
The kids found the hotel worker and asked her if she would let them into the room. She agreed and opened the door. Inside, they had a surprise! There was a spiky wig on the bed.
"We must talk to Mr and Mrs Jeffers," said Dink.
The kids went to look for them and found them eating breakfast. Rose walked up to them and put the hair on the table.
"This fell out of your wig last night," she said.
Mr and Mrs Jeffers were surprised, but then they began to laugh.
"Ok kids, it looks like you've caught us!" Mr Jeffers said. (Continued next week)
